Blake and Cathy Purcell have just arrived in St. Petersburg in time for the Fall Intensive of the Biblical Theological Seminary (BTS). This is the first time they have gone to teach in Russia since the new anti-freedom of religion laws came into effect in July.
Please pray for protection for:
Blake and Cathy, the teachers at the Fall Intensive, and the Christian University of St. Petersburg which hosts BTS intensives.
The groups and individuals at the events the Purcells will host in their home during this time, including a banquet and Bible study for parents of disabled children in Club Babochka, and a fellowship meal with the whole church of our new seminary student, pastor Sergey. Both of these events could be considered illegal depending on interpretation of the law.
Please join us in praying for the efforts of the Fall Intensive, and for our teachers and students. BTS Dean Evgeniy Kruzhkov, just back in Russia after visiting the US in September and October, will be teaching on the book of Genesis, and Blake will be teaching courses on Personal Discipleship, and Christian Worldview. Alexander Belyaev of the Christian University of St. Petersburg will be joining us to teach Greek.
Our students include a pastor, elder, and church members from St. Petersburg churches, as well as a leader of a Christian group in a country in Central Asia.
We need prayers not just for protection, but that God would use this time to truly build real men of God who can change Russian culture for His glory, into the image of Christ. -Blake Purcell
